No doubt spurred on by the success of the BMC Sprite / Midget range Standard-Triumph unveiled its new budget sports car in 1962, the Triumph Spitfire 4. The Spitfire 4 used a Triumph Herald chassis and twin SU version of its engine clothed with a very attractive open roadster body styled by Michelotti.
Thanks to the separate chassis the Spitfire enjoyed the same type of tilt-forward front wings and bonnet assembly that the Herald first used. The Spitfire looked good, had an evocative name and was cheap to buy and run.
This car has minor modifications such as mini-lite alloys etc. is ideal for a spitfire enthusiast or for anyone who just wants to enjoy the summer months.
It would make a great fun car for those with a villa abroad.
