Bob Brady has loved Aston martin s since he was a boy. Having owned both a DB7 and DB9, Bob is now working with the Aston Workshop to bring his latest model, the DB6 back to its former glory.
I bought the DB6 in May of last year at the Aston sale in Newport, Pagnell. It was the right condition and right price and I could see the potential it had for a full restoration.
I could have just done the basics to get it on the road, but I wanted to turn it into a car that will last another 40 years.
Bob lives in Barrow-in-Furness in the Lake District in a converted cotton mill. Having grown up in the family engineering business, he trained as a motor mechanic to pursue his love of cars.
It s funny because it s the 1967 model and that was the year I passed my driving test. I remember that the DB6 was the car to have when I was young. Ever since the Aston Martin was in James Bond, I ve wanted one. And when the DB6 came out with its thin tail and sloped off back I thought it was perfect.
My intention is to overhaul the whole car, strip the paint, body and chassis. It was mink green when I bought it but it will be re-sprayed silver birch when it s finished.
In terms of balance, the DB6 is perfection and I can t wait till its back on the road in full glory.
