“Welcome to Dubai Mr. Bond”
Well, not quite, but thanks to the joint efforts of Aston Workshop and UK Trade & Investment, dignitaries attending celebrations at the British Embassies in Dubai and Oman were able to witness for themselves, the stunning and evocative Aston Martin DB5 made famous by a certain 007.
The car in question is a 1965 example that has been restored and enhanced by Aston Workshop.
Managing Director, Clive Dickinson explains the reasoning behind the trip;
“Although we have many years of experience in dealing with clients from the Middle East, this is a great opportunity for us to establish a more physical presence in the region, and no amount of advertising or publicity can compare with actually flying an example of our product out there and allowing potential clients to peruse it at their leisure.”
“Due to the high number of clients we already have from the region, we have become expert in converting and enhancing these beautiful old Aston Martins to suit the specific demands that arise from the prevailing conditions such as, right to left hand drive conversion and improved cooling systems etc.”
“Of course, none of this would have been possible without the tremendous assistance we have received from everyone at UK Trade & Investment; they really have been very generous and worked tirelessly in their efforts to make this adventure happen.”
We are constantly developing new ways to enhance the safety, durability and road going capabilities of all models of Aston Martin. All of these improvements are undertaken to the highest possible standards; often resulting in a car that is in many ways far superior to when it first left the factory.
Attention to detail is paramount, and when we convert a car to left hand drive for instance, we make absolutely certain that it is exactly as it would have been where it a ‘factory’ LHD car.
Restoration Project Manager, John Gray explains;
“We are always finding ways to improve the usability of these classic Astons, often this can be location specific as with the Car we have restored for the Middle East trip. It has not only been converted for LHD, but also features; electric power steering, modern 5 speed transmission, air conditioning, heat insulation for the passenger department and an aluminium radiator with an electric cooling fan.”
“But we don’t stop there, we try to think of every detail, so for instance, we have fitted stainless steel wheels to this car, they offer much better protection against sand erosion, and we have used a special coating on the manifold to contain as much heat as possible, the same coating is used in formula 1. We have also investigated the use of a new superior heat proofing material for the cabin area, unfortunately this won’t be ready for the trip but I think this shows that we are never going to rest on our laurels here at Aston Workshop.”
The aim of the trip to the Middle East is to showcase the fantastic quality of the work that Aston Workshop is capable of, as well as to meet with potential businesses partners.
Clive Dickinson again, “We really are interested in establishing a more permanent presence in the area, and hopefully this is will be just the first step.”
UK Trade & Investment have been instrumental in helping many UK companies to grow their business globally, and when they heard of Aston Workshop’s plans to reach out and expand their interests in the Middle East, they were only too pleased to get involved, using their expertise and funding to help ensure that the plan became a reality.
