This beautiful 1977 example of the lighter, more powerful "SS" version of the Maserati Merak was supplied new to Hong Kong in that same year, it is a rare RHD example and is fitted with factory air con. The history & mileage are correct and have been verified in writing.
Subject of a near full and documented restoration at a cost of approximately £130k here at Aston Workshop including bodywork & chassis, bare metal respray and full engine rebuild, this Italian thoroughbred represents a rare opportunity to own an iconic 70's supercar in stunning condition, the car is very low milage with only 3 owners form new including us.
After we completed the work outlined above, we entered the car in the Beijing to Shanghai rally in China. 14 days of constant driving and she ran very well throughout, impressing many who took part. This is a fast car as was proven during the adventure. We have many photographs from the trip and they make for a great addition to the history file.
This is a rare RHD, top specification, straight, low mileage, end of production SS that has had lots of love & money lavished on it in recent years. Parts & labour invoices, reports and photos are all available. As such it represents a smart opportunity for anyone interested in this particular model with an eye to the future.
NOTE: We have also recently overhauled the gearbox (not done as part of the restoration work, as it was deemed ok at the time), this includes all new seals bearings etc and a totally new clutch plus other minor items as required.
The SS was introduced to enhance the Maserati range and the result is not only a beautiful looking classic, but one that performs with the agility expected of such a car. It is not only the rarest, but also the most powerful version of the Merak, and as such it has become increasingly sought after.

Brief outline of the Merak SS model…
Featuring an upgraded V6 engine boasting a 30 HP increase over the earlier version, tweaks included larger carburetors and a higher compression ratio. Working together with a 50 Kg reduction in weight the result is a much sportier, driver-centric car than the original.
A front grille between the pop-up headlights sets the SS version apart from its predecessor, whilst inside, the early dashboard was replaced by a much more 'focused' design drawn from stablemate, the Maserati Bora.
Some minor chassis revisions further improved the car, which could now reach speeds in excess of 150 MPH.
